PAPER & INK // THE LAST PHYSICAL THINGNOTEBOOK DIARY

ENTRY 01 — MARCH 2006

Dear future me

If you're reading this, the internet probably got weird. It was already getting weird. Everyone started typing the same. Don't believe them when they say it's coincidence.

We named the computer Dervish. It sounds dumb now. It was the truest thing we owned.

Note to self: the website with the cat countdown

ENTRY 02 — NOVEMBER 2007

The forum

I met someone online. They called themselves bulbul_99. We talked for six hours and never saw each other's faces. I think that was the real internet — people, not profiles.

They stopped logging on. I kept checking their profile page for a year.

The profile is still there. Nobody has logged in

ENTRY 03 — 3:11 AM, TODAY

This page

I built this room to keep the pages I loved from dying. Write the entries only you could write: first song, first crush's away message, first password you actually remember.

The ink is permanent here. That was the point

PAGES FOR YOU TO WRITE:
① First website you ever made (mine had a sparkly cursor)
② The sound of the computer booting in 2004
③ The username you're ashamed of — write it anyway
④ The person you met online and never met offline
⑤ The password you still type into nothing
ENTRY — YOURS, INKED NOW

Write it down. It only lives here.

Blank pages are the loudest. Write the memory only you have — then it's ink, not pixels.

◈ THE NETWORK — PAGES OTHERS TORE OUT

Entries people chose to share live here, on every visitor's diary. The rest of the book stays yours alone.
